Choose-your-own adventure with friends
Quillington is a group story told by an AI narrator and steered by you and your friends, one decision at a time, a chapter every day or two. It takes a minute of your day and reads like a book you can't put down, because you're in it.
1. The narrator writes
A chapter of real prose, in the tone you set, that stops where someone has to choose.
2. It lands in your inbox
Everyone gets the chapter by email, read or read aloud. If it's your character's choice, the options are right there.
3. You decide
Pick an option or write what your character tries. It's an attempt, not an outcome: the narrator decides how it goes.
4. Then the next chapter
Once everyone has moved, the narrator writes what happened.
Between stories
When a story ends, any character from it can go on to the next one. They arrive remembering what happened to them: the narrator writes them a new sheet from the chapters they lived through, and carries it into the new story as memory rather than plot.
Major and minor
Major characters are the ones the story turns on: they get the most action and the big decisions. The premise says which roles start major, and from then on the narrator decides, by what the story needs; a story has at most 5.
Waitlists
Anyone in a story can wait in line for a character someone else plays. Whoever has made the most of their last 30 moves in time comes first. Miss 3 moves in a story and your character goes to the first in line, or to anyone who steps in. Two players waiting for each other's characters swap.
The narrator plays the rest
Invite as many friends as you like, at any time. Every role nobody takes is played by the narrator, and anyone can follow along without playing, getting every chapter and first word when a character comes free.
One player pays. It covers everyone.
Stories are paid in quills: one quill is 5 chapters and costs $3.00. The payer can take a refund at any time for the chapters not yet written.
